NATA has been appointed by the Hon Nicola Roxon MP, Minister for Health and Ageing to act as an approved accreditor for Stage II of the Government's Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme (DIAS).

The Scheme has been implemented in two stages, and Stage II will see its scope broadened to include providers of cardiac ultrasound, cardiac angiography, obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound and nuclear medicine imaging (non-radiology).

NATA's Manager Medical and Diagnostic Imaging, Tracy Fleming said "from 1 July 2010, it will be a requirement that all practices wishing to provide Medicare funded diagnostic imaging services seek and maintain accreditation against the Practice Accreditation Standards.

Arrangements have been put in place to allow the transition of non-radiology practices into the Stage II Scheme. Eligible non-radiology practices must register for deemed accreditation prior to 24 June 2010 to ensure that their access to Medicare funded DI services is not interrupted.  Practices can choose to be accredited under the entry level (three standards) or the full suite Practice Accreditation Standards (15 standards) in the first instance.

Practices granted accreditation under Stage I must be awarded accreditation against the full suite Practice Accreditation Standards by 30 June 2012.

Practices that hold RANZCR/NATA Medical Imaging Accreditation need not do anything.  The Federal Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) automatically recognises all facilities accredited under the MIAP as having met its compulsory DIAS requirements.  NATA will ensure that the Department is notified of your practices continued accreditation."

As a approved accreditor at Stage I, NATA has successfully assisted over 1000 practices to gain accreditation under the Scheme, and looks forward to being of assistance to your practice as we move into Stage II.
