Updated scope of accreditation for assisted reproduction procedures

E-mail Print PDF

The interpretation of serology and hormone testing results for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) requires a level of expertise specific to infertility.

Following discussion with the Fertility Society of Australia (FSA), Scientists in Reproductive Technologies (SIRT) and Medical Testing Accreditation Advisory Committee members, laboratories are advised that the subclasses of tests available under a scope of accreditation for assisted reproductive procedures has been updated to acknowledge this level of expertise.

Such testing carried out by fertility laboratories will now be represented in the scope of accreditation as follows:

10.95Assisted reproduction procedures
 .14Hormones
 .15Serology testing
Descriptor identifying particular test/s eg HCV, HIV.

Consideration was also given to the addition of genetic testing, however, as this area of testing is currently performed by a limited number of laboratories, it will not be included under 10.95 at this stage and will remain under 10.70 Genetic Testing.

Other specialised assays such as cancer antigens will be listed under 10.95.99 Miscellaneous.
