NATA (The National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia) operates Australia’s laboratory accreditation system with 2,800 accredited facilities and is seeking to a appoint a Scientific Officer for our Rhodes office. This is a full-time career position offering variety and job satisfaction.
The appointee will be required to work with a team of professional people engaged in assessment of the competence of laboratories. The appointee will primarily be working 50% in the field of Biological Testing and a second field allocation will be determined after initial induction training has been completed.
Duties: The appointee will primarily organise and lead laboratory assessment teams that include NATA’s honorary technical assessors. The role involves the preparation of written reports and leading assessment teams comprising appropriate technical experts to conduct on-site laboratory assessments. Duties also include the preparation of technical reports, follow-up of matters arising from assessments and provision of advice to technical assessors and the public on NATA’s policies and technical requirements. Intrastate and interstate travel will be necessary.
Essential Criteria:
Applicants must have:
- a tertiary qualification within the field of Science/Applied Science, a tertiary qualification in microbiology is highly desirable;
- proven relevant post graduate professional in a microbiology laboratory;
- sound knowledge of the principles of good laboratory management;
- self motivated, well organised, logical thinker;
- highly developed interpersonal skills, oral and communication skills;
- the ability to work unsupervised;
- ability to manage a number of simultaneous tasks;
- computer literate;
- current drivers licence.
Previous auditing experience is highly desirable, although training will be provided.

This position is a full-time permanent position offering variety, job satisfaction and security.
The Group consists of a small team of professional people who plan and lead on-site laboratory assessments, utilising technical experts, against criteria based on ISO/IEC 17025.
Duties:
The appointee will be primarily responsible for organising and leading assessment teams comprising appropriate technical experts to conduct on-site laboratory assessments. The laboratories are those accredited in NATA’s fields of Construction Materials Testing. Duties also include the preparation of technical reports, follow-up of matters arising from assessments and provision of advice to technical assessors and the public on NATA’s policies and technical requirements. Intrastate and interstate travel will be necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:
This role would be ideal for someone who has a tertiary qualification within the field of applied science/engineering. In addition, you will possess 3-5 years practical experience in a laboratory environment and are computer literate. You will be self-motivated, well-organised, logical thinker, with highly developed interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills. The ability to work unsupervised and manage a number of simultaneous tasks is essential. You must also have a current driver’s licence. Previous auditing experience is highly desirable, although training will be provided.

Scientific Officer – Veterinary Testing
The National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) operates Australia’s laboratory accreditation system and is seeking to appoint an additional Scientific Officer in either our Rhodes Sydney office or North Melbourne office shortly relocating to Abbotsford. This is a full-time career position offering variety, job satisfaction and security.
The appointee will primarily be working in the field of Veterinary Testing. The appointee may be expected to work in other fields of testing after initial induction training has been completed.
Qualifications and experience:
Applicants must have a degree in Science or Applied Science and proven relevant post graduate professional laboratory experience, preferably in a veterinary pathology laboratory. A sound knowledge of the principles of good laboratory management and computer literacy are required. Knowledge of and experience in auditing would be an advantage. Applicants must be self motivated and have a demonstrated ability to work and interact with people at a professional level. Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written, are also essential. A driver’s licence is necessary.
